Beginning in my childhood in southeastern Pennsylvania and continuing to my present life in post-glacial coastal Essex County, Massachussetts, weekend walks in the local landscape have punctuated my life. In 2009, my impulse for photographing on these walks evolved from purely documentary to meditative, and since then I have amassed a substantial personal archive delving into the expanse, the details and the evolution of woodlands and coast, as well as an accounting of the evolution of my eye and interest.

Over time I have found that while photography parallels my painting practice, grounding me in the physicality and proccesses of my here and now, my images neither serve as studies or as literal references for paintings.
